Workshop A: Scaffolding Communicative Tasks Across the Modes with Charlotte Gifford
As teachers work with different proficiency-based practices, they are still left with how to design communicative, day-to-day tasks that support students to reach the target proficiency level. In this workshop we will address how to create and implement appropriate scaffolds to bring students to the target proficiency level and foster a “level-up” mentality. Teachers will leave with resources and examples for how to create appropriate scaffolds across all of the modes.
Workshop B: All Hands On Deck: Curriculum Writing for Proficiency-Based Teaching with Mike Travers
As many districts continue to adopt the Seal of Biliteracy and teach for proficiency it is resulting in a need for putting textbooks aside and writing curriculum. But how does a teacher, team or department go about this process? In this workshop, we will start by exploring why changing curriculum is important and then go into some steps of how to go about writing thematic units where communication is at the forefront. Teachers will leave with resources to help them choose themes, write unit performance objectives, plan performance assessment prompts and write daily learning targets to unpack a unit. Join us individually or with your department to dive deeper into the world of curriculum writing that you can implement in your classrooms.
