By popular vote, members have selected Language Acquisition in a Nutshell: A Primer for Teachers by Bill VanPatten and Russell Simonsen as our inaugural title. Read at your leisure this summer, or use it as a way to ease back into teaching mode when the new school year begins.

Fostering a Sense of Belonging Through Multilingualism
The MAFLA Annual Conference, October 30-31, offers members an outstanding PD opportunity for learning and collegiality. Included in the basic conference registration this year are 60-minute concurrent sessions on Friday, lunch on Friday (included in the price), and deep-dive workshops on Saturday morning. You can also register for our Saturday morning Immersion Breakfast or our Saturday afternoon Business/Awards Luncheon. On Friday, there will be a variety of companies and organizations exhibiting their products and services in the Exhibit Area. As more students set their sights on STEM careers and majors, the way we promote world language learning needs to evolve. In this webinar, we will explore the changing landscape in higher education and consider the role that world languages can continue to play in students’ educational journeys. How can we show that world language is an asset for any course of study from education to international relations to physics to pre-med? How can language teachers across levels work together to ensure that world languages remain a priority for as many students as possible and for years to come?
